I thought this book was very good. Glad to see that Darcy and Erik survived the snap. Also happy to see Jane again too. Happy that Erik's mind was fixed and Darcy put her political science degree to good use. Also happy to see that there were other scientists too. The Avengers mentions were cool too. Hope they find a way to bring the people back who vanished in the snap.

Avengers: Infinity War: The Cosmic Quest: Vol. 2: Aftermath By Brandon T. Snider, is a movie tie-in novel based on the MCU film “Avengers: Infinity War.”

The story brings readers and moviegoers up to speed on the whereabouts of Thor’s human compatriots, who are alive and dealing with a new threat in the wasteland created by the Mad Titan, Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet. Scientist Erik Selvig, former love interest to the God of Thunder, Jane Foster, Darcy, and her new intern (obviously having dropped the other guy from Dark World) team up as the “Science Avengers,” to figure out the cause of the “blip event.” Gradually, Selvig and the others, investigating the Infinity Stones, figure out Thanos put the power of all six Stones together to cause the catastrophe that brought the universe to the brink of extinction. The aforementioned threat is a brand-new villain created for the book.

This novel, as Volume 1 did, serves as an interim episode between the movies. It presents the Infinity War from the point of view of people who were not involved in the central conflict, re-introduces details about the Infinity Stones that we may have forgotten (there have been 20 movies, so we’ve forgotten plenty), and brings several forgotten characters back into the story.

But this book is so much more than connections to the movies, it is about a tight group of friends and colleagues who not only support each other but also nudge/push each other to be their best selves. Whereas Erik and Darcy were ancillary characters in the MCU, they are moved to the fore in this novel and, with Felix, become the primary protagonists, expanding them into fully realized characters with histories, motivations, and fears. Darcy seemed like simple comic relief in the first Thor movie, but now she’s a determined woman motivated by her need to care for others who is reluctant to admit how much she cares, even to herself. Erik Selvig is still a weird scientist guy, but no longer brainwashed, so seeing his personality fleshed out, especially his interactions with young Felix, was enlightening. He’s as obsessive as he seemed under Loki’s control, but we learn how caring he is, bearing the weight of what he unwillingly did while brainwashed. Felix is the best part of this novel, a son/student to Selvig, someone fast and funny enough to keep up with Darcy, and a superhero in the making.

To fill up the cast, Snider introduces former colleagues of Selvig, all as fascinating as Selvig. Snider created a really cool team here, a cadre of brilliant scientists (held together by a glue who majored in political science). These original characters are definitely the highlight of the book.

While I did enjoy the main plot of the book. I still had a few issues. My main problem is the setting it’s set a few mouths after the “Blip Event”, and people on Earth are still acting like everything’s normal. Besides a few characters referring to the event, and Felix having lost his parents to it. The author doesn’t really seem to use the potential of Thano’s victory, and how it impacted Earth. Also the main original villain for this book just boring, and didn’t really get fleshed out.

All in all, Dispirit my few issues Cosmic quest: Aftermath serves as a nice spinoff that focuses on MCU side characters that seemed to kinda have been forgotten about, and gives them a nice solo adventure set before Avengers: Endgame. I would recommend this novel to kids and adults, and to any fans of the MCU.

Honestly, not so good.

The villain is someone who steals other's ideas and builds them himself - something I'm sure annoys everyone. But the book itself has quotes taken from other media (some of which are less frustrating than others.

There was also nothing new added to the Marvel world. Like, nothing. We already know about the stones and Thanos.

A lot of moments are cringeworthy. Did we really need the words "stan" and "ship" in a published book?

Felix was a frustrating character to read. I really did not take to him. I get he was likely there for the kid aspect of the book, but every time he did anything I wanted to close the book and walk away. I don't care that he's a super smart kid, some of the things he does just don't make sense.

Admittedly, this book is likely for younger readers. But as it's Marvel, I was expecting at least something from it to add something to my understanding of the universe, even like a random fact. For a kid, likely an okay read but honestly a nope from me.

I enjoyed this! And I think I was surprised but how much I enjoyed this in the end. Within the first fifty or so pages, all I could think about was the "it's free real estate" meme because of the child prodigy Felix. He was essentially a vessel for fandom culture and slang ("tea", "salty", etc) and occasionally he did get on my nerves but overall I knew why he was there.

This was written for young adult readers but I've definitely read better YA sci-fi than this. But that's not me saying this is a bad story! The plot itself was great, and I actually liked the other original characters.

If you liked the first and second Thor movies, I think you would enjoy this book. It's less than 250 pages. I bought this solely because it featured Darcy Lewis and I was glad that she was written in character and had her own arc within this pretty short tale.

This is the third and possibly final book revolving around Infinity War. Here, we see the world after the Decimation that Thanos caused and reunite with Dr. Selvig and Darcy from the Thor films.
I love the idea, but I wasn’t a fan of the execution of this book. My biggest problem was that it didn’t go into how the world was affected by such a huge loss. If the world lost half of its population by random selection, it would have coverage and the world wouldn’t get by that quickly.
I really wanted to love this, since I loved the last two books so much, but honestly it was very meh since there was only so much they can do because they don’t want to spoil anything for Endgame. Just disappointing.

I may change this rating at some point once I see how it interacts with Avengers: Endgame. I enjoyed the journey and especially all the new characters we met - Science Avengers - but I'm not sure how this is going to impact the larger Marvel universe. I would love to see Jane, Selvig, and Darcy involved once again with the Avengers as they deal with the decimation, but am not confident that it's going to happen.

All that said, I would definitely read more of this story should it be made available. I hadn't given much thought to how non-Avengers/Guardians would make sense of Thanos and the Snap.

This is just,,,, not very exciting. It focuses on Erik Selvig and Darcy Lewis from the Thor movies primarily, with a few other minor characters making appearances. This story takes place after the "decimation" as they call it in the novel, aka the "Snap" in Infinity War.

I understand that they can't have major MCU canon events in these quasi canon small scale novels, but this story still feels just so tiny and insignificant, even compared with Volume 1 of this series. I just wish all of this could have led to something bigger, but in the end it is just their goal to basically find out more about the Infinity Stones, using that weird water well that Thor takes a bath in in "Age of Ultron.

The characters were pretty well represented, and Darcy's voice especially was pretty good. I didn't particularly like any of the new characters, and it feels like a waste to introduce so many of them, especially since I would be very surprised if we ever see any of them represented in a film or show.

In the end this book just isn't very impactful and I probably won't remember details of it after a month of two, which is unfortunate.

More MCU canon books please!

This Cosmic Quest was interesting but not AS INTERESTING as the last one I read. In this Quest, we follow Darcy, the Professor and their new intern Felix as they search for Dr. Jane Foster.
The Professor rekindles with some cronies and the Science Avengers start up.

Not bad, I'll love if it actually ties into the next movie somehow. I've missed Darcy.

Not what I expected but okay. Helps to have seen the first 2 Thor and Avengers movie as they reference back to those events throughout the whole journey.

Out of all the franchise tie-ins I've read, this one seems the most pointless. A problem compounded since the MCU doesn't really have a "canon".
