With extended 5G network, number of internet users surpassing 1B in world’s largest digital society

China’s netizen population grows by over 19M in a year

ANKARA

The largest digital society in the world, China added 19.19 million netizens over last year, taking the number of Chinese internet users to 1.051 billion by June 2022, state-run media reported on Wednesday.

According to China Internet Network Information Center’s latest report, an extended 5G network across the country of over 1.4 billion people contributed to the increase of netizens, Global Times reported.

“The amount of 5G base stations across the country has surpassed 1.85 million. The total number of internet broadband access users of the three major telecom enterprises reached 563 million, an increase of 27.05 million over the end of 2021,” according to the report.

Mobile phone is the most popular way for people to surf the internet, with the percentage reaching 99.6, said the report.

Since 2021, the number of internet users in villages also raised by 1.2%, reaching 293 million.
