While working on Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Hugh Grant felt intimidated by two things: D&D fans and his co-star Michelle Rodriguez.

In an interview with SFX Magazine, Grant spoke about his role as the silver-tongued rogue Forge Fitzwilliam in the upcoming fantasy movie. He remarked that the D&D fanbase is very protective of their game, which can make them a tough crowd to please. Even so, Grant is confident that he can win them over. "I;m scared stiff of the gamers because they're very territorial about the game they love," Grant said. "So they may want to hate it... but they're not allowed to."

Alongside tabletop gamers, Grant mentioned that he was also "slightly frightened" of Rodriguez. The Fast & Furious star plays a barbarian named Holga in Honor Among Thieves, and bulked up significantly while preparing for the role. "I'm slightly frightened of Michelle. I don't know why. I think she's gonna beat me up," Grant joked. "No one has ever worn a costume better than she wears that costume. She's from the streets of New York and I'm from the cloisters of Oxford... So she frightens me, but she couldn't be nicer. Good hugger."

Honor Among Thieves Takes Moviegoers to the Forgotten Realms

Honor Among Thieves has no connection to any previous Dungeons & Dragons movies, and is an original story set in the tabletop role-playing game's Forgotten Realms setting. The movie stars Chris Pine as a bard named Edgin who unwittingly gives a dangerous artifact to an evil Red Wizard of Thay, and must form an adventuring party to go retrieve it. Besides Pine, Rodriguez and Grant, the movie also co-stars Regé-Jean Page as a paladin, Justice Smith as a sorcerer and Sophia Lillis as a druid. Trailers for the movie have shown off several deep cut references to the RPG, including monsters like owlbears, gelatinous cubes and intellect devourers. The movie premiered at SXSW and early reviews have been positive.

During the SFX interview, Grant was also asked about the possibility that he might return to Doctor Who after briefly appearing on the non-canon TV special The Curse of Fatal Death in 1999. Grant was approached by Doctor Who showrunner Russell T. Davies about playing The Doctor in the revival, but Grant declined, and the role was given to Christoper Eccleston. Grant later said he regretted this, and he and Davies eventually worked together on A Very English Scandal. However, even with Davies returning to Doctor Who, Grant said he's not interested. "I'm not sure I could watch Doctor Who, even now. It frightened me so much as a child. Even the music."

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves hits theaters on March 31.
