“Spider-Man” Headed For $135M Opening

With “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” now out, attention at Marvel has turned towards “Spider-Man: Homecoming” which marks the first co-production between Marvel Studios and Sony.

This week, the long-range box-office estimates have come in with Box Office Pro suggesting that ‘Homecoming’ could collect as much as $135 million when it opens in early July.

That would be considerably up on the $62 million and $92 million that the two Andrew Garfield-led “Amazing Spider-Man” films opened to, but behind the second ‘Guardians’ which scored just over $145 million earlier this month.

The website also suggests that “Spider-Man: Homecoming” could collect approximately $325 million by the end of its domestic run.

In other news, the film’s star Tom Holland was recently asked by Cinepop what Spider-Man villains he’d like to see in future films – he offered Mysterio, Kraven, and the Clone Saga storyline which boasts the character Spider-Woman.

Holland is still collecting plaudits for his performance of Rihanna’s “Umbrella” in a broadcast of “Lip Sync Battle” the other weekend. “Spider-Man: Homecoming” opens in cinemas on July 7th.
