When it comes to landmarks, there doesn’t seem to be a single one on Earth that Michael Bay wouldn’t be beyond blowing up in one of his films.
The upcoming “Transformers: The Last Knight” won’t be any different on that front, and Bay’s penchant for large incendiary action will take its toll on one of the world’s most famous ancient landmarks – Stonehenge.
Well, not the real one. Actress Laura Haddock recently revealed to EW that Bay recreated the monument just to instantly destroy it when completed:
“I mean the man took a whole crew and cast and unit to Stonehenge and then by the time he had made it down the road, built another Stonehenge just so he could blow it up.”
Haddock amusingly added that the “question was most definitely asked” regarding whether Bay asked about blowing up the real thing. She went on to praise Bay for his on set practical-heavy style and love of explosions:
“Michael’s sets are practical, so you would think that maybe 90 percent of this film is done on green screen, and it’s really not. He loves an explosion. He absolutely loves them, so if he can use them safely, he will. Often you’re running through what feels like a genuine … battlefield. Something that kind of builds your adrenaline. You absolutely experience what it feels like to have an explosion go off just behind you. And you’re just running, running for your life.”
That’s not to say she didn’t enjoy it. In fact, she says she walked away with cuts and bruises from these scenes but would think – “That was one of the best days I’ve ever had” afterward. “Transformers: The Last Knight” opens in cinemas on June 23rd.
