Emilia Clarke Says No to More Terminator Sequels

Emilia Clarke tells CS that she will not be returning for any more Terminator sequels

Terminator Genisys, the fifth big screen entry in the blockbuster science fiction franchise, opened to a mixed response last summer. While the film was, on the whole, not a hit with critics, Genisys still pulled in more than $440 million at the worldwide box office. Following the film’s opening, Skydance chief creative officer Dana Goldberg announced that the franchise would be “readjusting” its plans for additional Terminator sequels. While word has been relatively quiet as far as the franchise’s future, we got an update directly from Genisys star Emilia Clarke

“No,” Clarke put it succinctly when we asked if she might again play Sarah Connor in future Terminator sequels. “Can I say that? It’s okay. No. Uh-uh. But I have some very different roles coming up.”

Among those roles is the lead in Warner Bros. PicturesMe Before You which, the Game of Thrones star explains, is a dream project for her.

“I read the book and it was just the most beautiful thing I had ever read,” she said. “I was shooting ‘Terminator’ at the time and had a rocket launcher in my hand while crying like a little girl. I felt like the author, Jojo Moyes, had found a part of me and just wrote it down. I knew that I just had to play the role.”

Me Before You, which hits theaters June 3, is directed by Thea Sharrock (The Hollow Crown) and stars Clarke as a woman who begins caring for a wealthy young man (played by Sam Claflin) who has recently become paralyzed.

“Khaleesi doesn’t laugh,” Clarke said of Me Before You‘s refreshing change of pace. “She doesn’t smile. She’s really serious. She takes her work very seriously. This role is the complete opposite. It’s affecting, but it’s a comedy as well. There’s some very funny moments in it… It’s a simple love story that talks about people’s rights.”
