Artifact player count tops 50,000 barely an hour after launch

Artifact player count has reached a health high on day one, reaching an initial peak of 56,240 concurrent players barely an hour after launch. That’s not an overwhelming success, but it is a solid one, and as of this post Valve’s card game is comfortably the number four game on Steam right behind the perennial top trio of CS:GO, Dota 2, and PUBG.

That’s a big step up in player count since the fairly limited beta, where player counts hovered just over 1,000 for much of the duration. Since the beta was initially limited to people who’d picked up a key from showings at PAX or The International, that low number shouldn’t be surprising, and the sudden jump suggests a lot of people were counting the seconds until the proper release.

Player count has stabilised at around 43k-45k for now, as you can see on SteamDB. The pattern has been much the same among Twitch viewers. There was an early peak of 49,916 that’s now dropped to around 35k, and has stabilised there for now.

It’s far too early to make any predictions about what this means for Artifact’s long-term health, but it’s a promising start for the game.

Artifact’s eventual cost for those who hope to remain competitive remains the biggest question for the game’s health, and building some bargain decks might just help you along.
