Arc Raiders players plead with Embark Studios for a duos mode — some fans say the game isn’t meant to be a balanced team deathmatch

Arc Raiders

The OP continues: “If the queue time is too long, sure, throw us into threes, but at least try to fill the whole lobby with other duos for a minute.” Another post demands, “Please matchmake duos against duos…” But opinions aren’t unanimous — some players insist Arc Raiders was designed as a PvPvE experience that can feel punishing when you’re outnumbered, and that imbalance is part of the game’s appeal.

Critics of a duos-only queue warn it could fragment the community. One commenter points out that solos don’t ask for solos-only lobbies and worries that adding duos would stretch matchmaking times and split the player base. That viewpoint finds backing in another Reddit thread titled “I’m a duo and I don’t want duos,” where the poster argues a duos mode would slow queues and undermine the game’s intended tension.

As one commenter explains, “Adding a duo-only mode will lengthen queue times and take away from the main game. This isn’t meant to be a balanced team deathmatch — that unpredictability is part of its brilliance.”

The community may be divided, but early reception hasn’t suffered. Arc Raiders enjoyed a highly successful launch and currently holds a “Very Positive” rating on Steam.

Our review praises Arc Raiders for delivering some of the most memorable multiplayer moments of the year, so it’s safe to say the game is off to a strong start. Hopefully the duos question is addressed in a future update.

After backing Arc Raiders over Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 for GOTY, streamer Shroud argued there should be separate categories for multiplayer and single-player experiences.
