Apple has blocked the ability to control the volume of external speakers connected via Spotify Connect using the buttons on an iPhone
Previously, the volume of speakers connected to an iPhone via Spotify Connect could be adjusted using the physical buttons on the iPhone, which was quite logical. But now Apple has blocked this capability — users will have to go into the phone and drag the volume slider on the screen.
Spotify has commented that this restriction violates the Digital Markets Act (DMA), as Apple is required to provide third-party companies with the same hardware and software functions as it does for its own services and devices.
Spotify has been in conflict and litigation with Apple for several years over App Store commission issues. It seems we are witnessing a new turn in this “war.”
