Apex Legends’ Niche Movement Mechanics Go Mainstream This Season

Respawn is adding a new movement tool to Apex Legends just in time for the holidays: Season 27 — Amped — arrives on November 4, 2025, and introduces an official mechanic that amplifies the game’s signature mobility.

Dubbed “Mantle Boosting,” the system grants a short burst of forward momentum when a player vaults over ledges or walls. Lead battle-royale designer Eric Canavese notes that the behavior has existed unofficially for some time as the community’s “mantle jump,” but it was difficult to discover and execute reliably. This season, Respawn is making that speed trick more approachable by adding a visible Mantle Boost indicator that shows when and how to trigger the move, broadening access beyond high-level players and esports competitors. See an example of the old technique in this clip on YouTube.

Lead Legend designer Josh Mohan says the goal is to give more players a sense of power and creative movement. The team studied advanced player techniques and competing titles, then built a clearer, more consistent implementation so players no longer need awkward key remaps or frame-perfect inputs to access advanced mobility.

Season 27 centers movement in its balance changes. Horizon, Rampart, and Valkyrie receive updates to keep them mobile: Horizon’s Gravity Lift has a shorter cooldown and launches players upward faster; Rampart’s Amped Cover now features a roof and provides nearby teammates with speed boosts; and Valkyrie sees the most extensive suite of upgrades to restore her aerial dominance.

Ian Holstead, a Legend designer, explains that Valkyrie needed a refresh to stay relevant amid new characters, movement passives, and map features like Evac Towers. Respawn reworked several parts of her kit to bring back the feel of her earlier, high-flying identity.

The changes to Valkyrie include faster VTOL Jets with a recharge rate three times quicker than before, meaning she can remain airborne much longer. Her Missile Swarm no longer damages her squad and now tags opponents that take damage from it. Skyward Dive has a dramatically reduced wind-up, and new Legend Upgrade options let players reduce fuel consumption, widen Missile Swarm spread, or accelerate Skyward Dive start-up even further.

Developers say these tweaks deliver more of the “jet-fighter” sensation Valkyrie players expect.

Even Olympus, the game’s primary aerial map, is getting a movement-first renovation: choke points have been opened up and high-ground control is easier to contest, reinforcing Season 27’s emphasis on fluid traversal and aggressive repositioning.

Season 27 — Amped launches on November 4, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. PST / 1:00 p.m. EST.
