Animal Crossing’s new paid DLC has you designing homes for new visitors

Animal Crossing: New Horizons players will go to work for Lottie, designing and building clients’ dream vacation homes with the Happy Home Paradise premium DLC announced in Friday’s special Nintendo Direct.

Over a 10-minute presentation, Nintendo showed players meeting vacationing NPCs, learning their decoration preferences, and then getting started on custom building a new home for the new visitors. Players will be working for Lottie’s Paradise Planning business; as they design more homes, other characters from the island may come to them to ask for a redo of their digs.

Friday’s showcase demonstrated a decoration job, with players using different-sized countertops, lighting options, and reconfigured floorplans to create cool interiors with lots of depth and charm. Paradise Planning will assist players by suggesting certain items to help flesh out the interior, based on the client’s preferred theme. It will also add new home design options, like relaxing soundscapes and ambient lighting, which they can the bring back to their own homes.

Players can also fix up buildings on Lottie’s island, including a restaurant and a school and invite other characters to use them. Lottie’s island also hosts a store with furniture you can’t get anywhere else, and it seems to have a new currency that is specific to Paradise Planning.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Happy Home Paradise is $24.99 and launches Nov. 5. However, it’s included with the new Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack DLC announced at the end of September. Nintendo also quietly announced the pricing for that subscription: individual memberships are $49.99, a family plan is $79.99.
