Borderlands 4 was also the top‑selling game in September, beating NBA 2K26, EA Sports FC 26 and Ghost of Yotei — the first time any Borderlands entry has claimed the monthly number‑one spot. Those results place it third on the year‑to‑date sales chart.

The space‑set action RPG is clearly a commercial success, and Gearbox has been actively issuing updates and balance patches as players thoroughly engage with the content.

In a year crowded with tentpole shooters like Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Borderlands 4’s vibrant, chaotic, loot‑driven approach has resonated. Judging by its momentum, vault hunting looks set to stay popular for some time.

Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford said he’s pleased with the story reaction, quipping: “Isn’t it strange to ship a game where the biggest complaint isn’t that we messed up the story?”
