American Court Declares Google a Search Engine Monopoly
A U.S. federal court has ruled that Google violates antitrust laws. It was proven that the company unlawfully abuses market power and suppresses competitors.
Google paid tens of billions of dollars to browser operators and smartphone manufacturers to set its search engine as the default.
Thanks to these agreements and continuous payments, Google’s share of the smartphone search market has reached around 95%.
Google, however, claims that it faces stiff competition from Amazon, TikTok, and Reddit, and that the success of its search engine is solely due to its high quality.
