After conquering YouTube and making Kirby and Super Smash Bros., Masahiro Sakurai is getting a 160‑page manga about his life and art

The manga contains several standalone chapters plus explanatory sections; the six main chapters are listed below:

  1. Young Sakurai and Games
  2. The Birth of Kirby
  3. The Beginning of Super Smash Bros.
  4. The Founding of Sora, Inc.
  5. The Legacy
  6. A Beacon for the Future

Sakurai is reportedly supervising the manga while also directing Kirby Air Riders, which is scheduled for release on November 20, 2025, for the Switch 2. He continues to juggle multiple projects at once — and fans can still hope for an anime adaptation in the future.

Additionally, Sakurai has denied claims that Kirby Air Riders was developed as a stopgap between Smash titles. He says the project began at the request of Nintendo executives, though he hasn’t ruled out returning to the crossover brawler down the line.

We played Kirby Air Riders — it’s the ideal racer for players who’ve grown tired of Mario Kart.
