After 32 Years Lost, This NES Horror JRPG Was Preserved — and Fully Fan-Translated in 33 Days

Splatterworld

We did a thing!
My first RPG translation is 1: Of an unreleased game, 2: in one of my favorite franchises, and 3: with a rom hacker that partially inspired me getting into translation in the first place. Super proud to have helped bring this out in *checks notes* just over a month!

Splatterworld is a striking example of what game preservation can deliver: a nearly complete, playable build of a title that never reached store shelves. That it’s a JRPG spin-off of a beloved, if overlooked, beat-’em-up series and brimming with homages to classic horror makes the find all the more remarkable.

These are the best NES games of all time.
