If you’ve ever pictured one of the greatest racing games ever rendered with nothing but family vans and the kind of compact your aunt used to drive, your imagination has become reality: Gran Turismo 2: Beige Edition is in development. This fan mod removes the original game’s high-performance cars and replaces them with far more ordinary, everyday vehicles.
A teaser trailer landed last month and makes the modders’ intent unmistakable. It recreates the slow-burn opening from the Gran Turismo PSP introduction over an electronic soundtrack, culminating in a mid-video beat drop that promises a roaring Ferrari — except the roar is replaced by a red Lancia Lybra lumbering down the street.

Planned features from the developers include:
- More than 330 brand-new cars spanning over 50 manufacturers.
- Over 150 trim and model updates applied to existing base-game vehicles.
- A fully overhauled career mode.
- Redesigned menus, assets, and user interface elements.
- Universal used-car dealerships across the game world.
- A new in-race soundtrack.
- And additional improvements yet to be revealed.
There’s no release date announced for the Beige Edition yet, but I’ll be watching every new trailer that surfaces to see these gloriously ordinary cars in action.
There’s still plenty of life left in the PS1’s finest racers.
